The Lazuli Portals will be at Saltash and Harewood House Mind-Body-Spirit Fairs

Hello everyone,

Just a quick post about two Mind Body Spirit fairs that Ron and I will have stalls at this month and next. 🙂

The first is at Saltash, Cornwall, this Saturday:

And the second is back at Harewood House, Plympton on Saturday 3 December:

If you’re in the area and are interested in crystals, spirituality, lifeforce energy/Reiki, and/or our novels (which combine all of these!) then why not pop in and come and say hello? 🙂

We personally sign all books that we sell at the fairs, and we may be able to parcel your books in one of our special wax-sealed bags, too. 🙂

Even if you’re not local, we’d really appreciate you sharing this post, if you’re happy to, just in case you have friends or family who are! Thank you!!

With lovelight blessings,

Joanna and Ron | The Lazuli Portals

Triskeles, Synchronicities, and Inspiration

While we don’t manage many ‘author appearances‘ (living 30 miles apart and having very different lifestyles play their part in that!) Ron and I were able to run stalls at two Mind Body Spirit fairs in Plymouth recently – yippee!

This is how they went …

(NB I regret my phone’s camera has a fault which means that every photo taken in low light comes complete with its own violet halo! I apologise for the image quality!)

Ron sitting behind our stall before the Plympton fair opened

At both the Estover and Plympton fairs, we met stallholders from events we’d attended earlier in the year.

It’s a lovely boost to see some familiar faces when you turn up in a strange place laden down with your banners and your boxes and bags!

It was fun to reconnect with them, and to strengthen those fledgling relationships. It’s even better when synchronicities occur and we can offer a solution to someone’s ‘problem’! 🙂

Ron chatting with Maureen Rolls, angel and animal communicator, during a quieter spell [www.angelandanimalcommunication.co.uk]

We also chatted with customers we’d met at previous events – we love hearing how much new readers are enjoying our novels and short stories – some of our customers are reading The Cordello Quest and Mosaic of Light a second time (and asking when the third will be ready, eek!)

As for new customers, it’s always interesting to chat with people who value crystals, Reiki, life-force energy, and working with intuition and synchronicity.

The few crystals we place on our table often spark a conversation, particularly the opalite tumblestone and the lapis lazuli. 🙂

At the second of the fairs (Plympton) – thanks to a brainwave idea from Ron, ever the ‘practical ideas man’ – the books we sold went home in little paper bags, upon which he affixed one of our business cards with a beautiful wax seal (thankfully without setting off any smoke alarms as the flame burned and the wax dripped oh-so-carefully onto the bag and card!)

The first of our ‘special Lazuli Portals bags’! Large enough to take one copy of each of our paperbacks!

The design imprinted into the wax is the beautiful triskele, one of my favourite symbols.

The design seemed a good fit for us, what with Ron being Cornish, and the importance of symbols in our novels – and our customers seemed very taken with the idea.

It made the handing over of our books feel even more special! What do you think of it?

There can be downtime at these events – people are not always streaming non-stop through the doors (and not everyone who does is interested in reading!)

So apart from browsing the other stalls, and mingling with stall-holders/friends, Ron and I had plenty of time to chat about writing: the process, our series, and our plans, thoughts, and ideas, as well as the concepts and spiritual learning we weave into our work.

We don’t often get the opportunity to do that in-person, so when the chance pops up, we make the most of it!

We also worked on short stories and poetry for reading aloud at Writers’ Circle meetings, taking advantage of quiet moments to get scribbling and typing, or to edit or format other writing projects we have underway.

I used my experiences at Estover (the atmosphere, the crystals I saw, the bustle of customers as they wandered from stall to stall) to form a short story based at a fictional Mind Body Spirit fair.

That piece – entitled Pick and Mix – was read aloud at Writers’ Circle last week. With writers, every experience can be of some creative value!

We have a few weeks’ break from the fair circuit now. Our next one will be at Saltash, Cornwall, on 12 November.

If you think you might be able to come along, you can find out more here:

In the meantime we’ll continue to work on Lazuli Portals Novel #3 (which I am able to progress most weeks, health and time permitting), and writing more stories and poems for Writers’ Circle … and anything else we can find time and energy for!

And of course we’ll continue posting on Twitter and Facebook (feel free to connect with us there if you haven’t already!)

We’re giving Instagram a try as well, if that’s more your ‘thing’. 🙂

We hope you enjoyed this post. Our next one will hopefully be K is for Kaleidoscope (Cordello Quest A-Z series).

If you want to make sure you see future posts from us, please Follow our blog, if you haven’t already! 🙂

Until next time, and with lovelight blessings,

Joanna and Ron at the Crocadon Sawmill Mind-Body-Spirit Fair

What happens when a duo of metaphysical and visionary fiction authors has a stall at a busy two-day mind-body-spirit fair in Cornwall…?

A gathering place where tables almost groan under the weight of their crystals, where people are talking about and working with Reiki and vibrational- and sound-healing … and where a lovely lady wearing fairy wings is creating huge soap bubbles out in the sun for the kids (their parents also seemed to be having a lot of fun, it has to be said!)

Joanna on Day One

Joanna waiting for Opening on Day One

Well, what happens is that those two authors have a lot of fun, and meet many people interested in spirituality, synchronicity, The Celestine Prophecy, crystals, and their Lazuli Portals novels…. the sort of place where our books feel right at home! (Yay!)

We're ready!

Day Two: we’re ready!

The Crocadon Sawmill MBS Fair was organised by Elaine Drake of AromAware, and we were lucky enough to be offered a wide table in one of the three large barns. This worked out well for us, as we made some lovely new friends, met lots of potential readers, and were entertained by a little girl who seemingly had a limitless supply of giggles and joy. 🙂

Birds on tour 🙂

Although we had some rain showers, they didn’t seem to deter the visitors. As well as the varied selection of stalls (jewellery and crafts as well as crystals, suncatchers, holistic therapies, and visionary art) we were also able to enjoy the healing sounds of steel tongue drum music (mesmerising), didgeridoo (soothing), and acoustic guitar. There were birds of prey, too – the owls on Day Two were precious! There was also a programme of talks and workshops, so there was a lot going on!

Cornish Crystal Cavern – which crystals d’you fancy?!

Woodland Fairy Tale

A fair few copies of The Cordello Quest, Mosaic of Light, and our short story ‘duobook’ The House of the Stormwind/Crystal, Fire and Water also now have new homes. (Such a lovely feeling when someone says, “I’ll take one of each!”) We hope they will be greatly enjoyed, and treasured for years to come. We certainly had a good time talking with our new readers! 🙂

Once again my little opalite tumblestone captured people’s interest, as did our colourful banners and the piles of the books themselves. 🙂

Ron 'modelling' our banners on Day Two!

Ron ‘modelling’ our banners on Day Two!

I could have spent a great deal of money at this fair at Crocadon: on bigger crystals (I restricted myself to a few tumblestones, two of which are being written about in Lazuli Portals novel #3); on more of Ian David’s visionary and mystical art (yes, I bought another print, and several notelets!) I could have been tempted with one of the steel tongue drums, too!

Our next ‘author appearance’ will be at the Summer MBS fair at the Elm Community Centre in Plymouth on 13 August – please see our previous announcement for further details.

If you’ve been to mind-body-spirit fairs before, did you have a favourite stall or activity? 🙂

Come and see us at these Mind Body Spirit Fairs in May, June, and August

Following the success (and sheer enjoyment) of selling our paperbacks at the Woolwell Mind-Body-Spirit Fair back in March, we have booked retail stalls at three more MBS fairs over the next few months! Yippee!!!

If you’re local to the Devon and Cornwall area, we’d love you to come along, and to stop for a chat with us!

If these events go well – and once we have our individual calendars ‘sorted’ for later in the year – we may book stalls at some of the fairs taking place during the autumn months, too!

First we’ll be at Lostwithiel Community Centre on Sunday 29 May (11am – 4pm).

Address: Lostwithiel Community Centre, Pleyber Christ Way, Lostwithiel, PL22 0HA

There will be Reiki, card readings, local crafts, jewellery, himalayan salt products, workshops, and demonstrations. Oh, and The Lazuli Portals, of course! 😉

Entry is by donation (for the building maintenance fund) and there is no fee for parking.

You can find out more through this Facebook Event listing if you are interested.

** Unfortunately the organisers of the Lostwithiel event have now cancelled it. Sorry for any inconvenience caused. **

Next up is a two-day event being held on the weekend of 11 & 12 June at Crocadon Sawmill, St Mellion (near Callington, Cornwall). We’ll be there with our books on both the Saturday and the Sunday. For more details, please see this Facebook Event listing.

The last of the three is Saturday 13 August (11am – 6pm) at the Elm Community Centre in Plymouth.

Elm MBS August

If you can’t make it to any of these events but wish to purchase a signed paperback from us, then we’d be happy to post one to you – just contact us with your name, the titles of the books which interest you, and the country to which you wish the book(s) to be posted, and ask us for a price. It’s easiest that way, as postage and packing rates change frequently!

Reiki, Crystals, and Synchronicities: Our first Mind-Body-Spirit (MBS) Fair!

Last Saturday, on St Piran’s Day, Ron and I attended our first MBS fair … as stallholders!

A new experience, and one we’ve learned a lot from!

It’s been quite a while since we’ve been able to organise any sort of ‘public appearance’ by The Lazuli Portals. And not having presented at any sort of combined event before, we weren’t really sure what to expect!

As it turned out, it was a very positive and rewarding experience.

We had our stall in one of the smaller, upstairs rooms of the building in which the fair was being held. This is me, waiting for opening, with no clue Ron had me in shot (argh!)

Copy of woolwelbsmfair

and a couple of pics of the rest of the room, with jewellery and woodwork comfortable companions with artwork, crafts, and accessories. (Apologies for the poor image quality).

Once people were through the doors, we were really too busy to take pictures!

I’d energetically cleared our space ahead of time, and all our flyers, handouts, bookmarks, crystal display, and books were freshly cleared and infused with lovelight or Reiki, so as to make our little corner as energetically pure, light, and inviting as possible. We knew that people who’d resonate with our energy and what we had on our stall would find us, without us having to be too ‘salesy’.

Clear Quartz image

It was wonderful to see and talk with people interested in Reiki, crystals, healing, angels, and the metaphysical, as it was so easy to communicate and discuss our ideas, our passion for our work and its topics and themes, and being interested in spirituality generally. There’s just an immediate connection between ‘you and them’ that I think transcends other ‘interests’. I think the novels and duobooks that we sold have found good homes, where they’ll be enjoyed and well cared for!

It was also affirming for us both, as authors of visionary fiction, to meet in real life people who get what we’re about, and understand the awakening process and its importance right now.

Several people said that the opalite caught their attention from the far side of the room, so they came over to see more. One lady took a liking to my lapis lazuli crystal chip bracelet and was disappointed it wasn’t for sale!

Ron’s Cornish kilt (how could he not wear it on Cornwall’s national day!) was an icebreaker now and then, too! (Sorry, I never thought to take a photo!)

One stallholder in our room had a lovely display of her jewellery, including a long necklace of pure emerald chips, fashioned with a copper clasp and findings.

Knowing we were ‘surrounded’ by people on a similar wavelength, it was inevitable that we’d take some time to browse the stalls in the main hall downstairs. It was packed! Some stallholders offered shiatsu or reiki, others oracle card readings or CDs. As for the crystal displays … I’m still not sure how I didn’t give into temptation – especially as I saw some gorgeous opalite and amethyst specimens. (As you can imagine, the energy in the building was great!)

There were a couple of things which were irresistible, though. I was wandering around the main hall and suddenly stopped in my tracks because I’d seen some art prints which literally left me speechless (apart from a rather unimaginative, “WOW!”)

The light coming from the artwork was incredible. I chatted with the artist, Ian David, about his process, and his artistic journey with photographic alchemy, and found myself unable to leave the fair without buying a few of his prints (they’re more arresting in real life; I can’t really do them justice here):

Stone circle on Bodmin Moor – how could I not bring it home with me!!!! It’s like I’m ‘seeing’ the start of The Cordello Quest! 😉

Ian’s leaflet says that he ‘’explores the uncharted worlds of ethereal, mystical and spiritual dimensions … my alchemy in action”.

No wonder his work resonated with me – in his art he finds the same magic and awe that I do while writing the Lazuli Portals novels. 😀

If you’re interested in Ian’s art, you can see (and buy) it on his etsy website: https://www.etsy.com/shop/IanDavidArt or visit his Facebook page.

So all in all, a really great day, with loads to celebrate, think about, and consolidate as we move forward. One of the things that really hit home with me is how essential it is that, for our paperback sales, we are present with the books so that we can connect with our potential readers. As authors writing in the metaphysical and visionary fiction genre, and as healers, we need to share our energy and our passion for both our work and for the greater context in which it rests.

Crystals ROCK!

I’ve worked with crystals for several years now, in both a professional and personal capacity, and of course a number of crystals have appeared in The Cordello Quest and Mosaic of Light, Books I and II of our Lazuli Portals series.

Quartz cluster

So I thought you might like to read a bit more about them! This post is based on an article I wrote a few years back for my Winter Jasmine Reiki blog (now defunct as I have too much to do!)

Even if you haven’t worked with crystals in the form of tumblestones, pyramids, spheres, or clusters, you have probably come across precious gems enclosed within engagement rings. Or maybe you have some ruby, sapphire or emerald ear-rings, or possibly a bracelet containing garnets or amethyst. Gemstones have been mined and set in jewellery for centuries. They’re pretty to look at, after all! 🙂

So here’s a quick science bit! Wikipedia puts it succinctly: a crystal is “a solid material, whose constituent atoms, molecules or ions are arranged in an orderly repeating pattern extending in all three spatial dimensions.” The majority of crystals were formed many thousands of years ago, usually a result of cooling and solidification of liquids.

One of the most popular crystal types is the quartz family – clear and other near-transparent quartz can have “inclusions”, which form when liquid, solid or gas (even ‘air’) become trapped when the crystal is ‘growing’; inclusions usually add to a crystal’s beauty and character. (Hint: inclusions are mentioned in Mosaic of Light.)

Clear Quartz image

Then there are the rose and smoky quartzes, with hues of pale pink or misty brown. Amethyst (purple) and citrine (yellow) are also types of quartz. I guess I have a bit of a thing about quartzes, come to think of it! That’s why I created a series of free Quartz Crystal Reiki attunements.

Denser coloured stones are also very pretty; the tiger’s eye (usually brown with cream markings), sodalite (dark blue with white streaking), amazonite (a vivid green with white markings), aventurine (a solid, soft green), garnet (dark red) and carnelian (deep orange) are just a few in my collection.

Then there’s lapis lazuli … a rich blue with sparkles of iron pyrite: how could that not be a favourite, when we write The Lazuli Portals?! Our logo was created from a close-up image of Ron’s original lapis lazuli crystal. 🙂

Lapis Lazuli Header for logo with shadow

But have you considered the ‘energy’ contained within these tiny rocks? Crystals of all shapes and sizes have their own ‘subtle energy’.

The energy of each type of crystal is unique. People who are naturally (or trained to be) sensitive to subtle energies (such as Reiki) can often sense the crystal’s energy  frequency when held in the palm of the hand. Each crystal has a different ‘vibration’ to it, and these differences can be felt when handled. Crystals are often used as an adjunct to Reiki sessions, or can be used alone as a healing session in their own right.

As with all colours, crystals can be linked to the seven main chakras (subtle energy centres) in the body, which follow the colours of the rainbow from the bottom up. There are thousands of webpages talking about chakras so I don’t intend to add more about that here. 😉

One of my favourite crystals – and an important stone in Mosaic of Light – is Rose Quartz. Associated with love – of the self and of others – and with unconditional acceptance, it is a great gift for someone special.

Why not start with yourself?

Crystals can be programmed for specific functions, charged with Reiki, or simply used “as is”. You can use the stones either on or close to the body during meditation, or simply carry one or more of them with you. I sometimes sleep with one or two crystals under my pillow or on my bedside table.

There are also energy systems and empowerments that can be used to work with the stones. I use etheric crystal energies daily – and the Quartz Crystal Reiki systems, of course!

Some crystals need to be cleansed regularly (including using water, earth, or air, depending on their chemical make-up) so that their energies remain clear, as many absorb the vibrations from the healing session or environment, which can inhibit or cloud their own innate energy. As some crystals can be damaged by (even dissolve in) water, a crystal-keeper needs to know how each type of stone should best be cleansed.

Clear quartz, known also as the “master healer”, needs no such cleansing, and can be used to keep other crystals clear and energised. It is also helpful to keep clear quartz near your computer, as it absorbs the EMFs and any other negative energies that may be in your environment. This versatile stone becomes important to one of the characters in Mosaic of Light.

Some crystals may help lift your physical energy; some may be supportive of emotional harmony, or mental balance. Some are ‘grounding’, some assist meditation, some can prevent you from the negative energies of others (those people around whom you always feel drained!) They each have a different “skillset”, which is one of the reasons I like to have lots of them!

Some say that a crystal draws you to it, such that you’ll know which one is right for you. This is something that Keira discovers in Mosaic of Light. And now and then, one will “disappear” – it’s no longer needed, apparently … 😉

Do you have or use crystals for healing or support? Which ones are your favourites? Do you sense their subtle energies when you use or wear them? Crystals rock – let’s talk about them! 🙂

Our Lazuli Portals Blog: The Way Ahead…

Just a little heads up that from next week, we’ll be altering our regular blog post schedule from weekly to fortnightly.

This should mean that we’ll both have more time, and more physical and creative energy, to direct toward our published works: the short story books, the novels, and perhaps some competitions, too!

As it stands, we intend to continue sharing news as and when it occurs, particularly if it relates to new book releases, author appearances, interviews, events, or giveaways. There’s usually a time factor involved with those, so we’ll stay flexible. 😉

We’ll also continue to share our Recommended Reads, Bitesize Tales, micro-fiction and poems, and The Cordello Quest A-Z Series … just less frequently! We love writing, but are choosing to align with how things are, giving our creative selves space to breathe, rebalance, and recharge (well, in between Writers’ Circle meetings, and work and other responsibilities, anyway!)

We hope we’ll continue to offer you posts which inspire, uplift, entertain, and/or inform. We also like to hear from readers who enjoy what we write, so please feel free to Like the posts, and/or leave a Comment if you have something to say!

Next week’s post is entitled Crystals ROCK! so make sure you check that one out if you like how we weave crystals and their energies into The Cordello Quest and Mosaic of Light! 🙂

See you again soon,

Joanna & Ron | The Lazuli Portals
